Reflections of the year 5 and 6 camp for 2023. What a great bunch of kids. They sang Christian songs and played the ukelele for the times we spent in the car, which was quite significant. There was lots of hearty laughter and little more than a moment of peace. Eventually, Mrs Joseph through down the challenge to get just 10 minutes of quiet, and the students complied. So, dinner and ice cream were the reward. It was worth it. The words “This is the best day ever!” were heard repeatedly for the different events. After travelling and setting up camp on Sunday, we joined the Cairns Adventist College 5 & 6 students and had a great time, including a surprise catch up with Tayahni, our old classmate. I was so surprised and proud of the students who learned to manage their fears on the mid and Hi-Zoom on the dome. We got up close and personal with some wildlife including an underwater viewing of the amazing Goliath (large croc). The students learned to manage their own money and some even managed to take some home. We learned about how hard life in an old and remote mining town was like for those in the Herberton Historical Village and how exciting panning for precious metal can be. Finally, we made it up to Kuranda via the Scenic Railway and checked the playful Tasmanian Tigers and shy tree kangaroo at the Rainforestation Nature Park, where we got to experience some traditional dance, spear and boomerang throwing. We learned about some of the Rainforest plants and animals on an army duck tour, then we got to spot some of things we learned about as we glided over the Rainforest canopy on the Skyrail on the way back to Cairns. Back at the Big4 each afternoon, students were able to enjoy pedal cart rides, giant jumping pillows, water slides and water park, mini-golf and board/card games. Students were so tired at the end of each action-packed day and promptly fell asleep. We praise God for an amazing trip and keeping us safe. ... See MoreSee Less
